From the vibrant megacity of New York it will take you less than two hours on the South highway to reach the placid town of Princeton. What is more, Princeton has a worldwide reputation for being the location of Princeton University, which has been part of the community since 1756.
The city is also well known in the choral world as the home of the Westminster Choir College, one of the world’s leading schools of music. Therefore, it seemed more than natural for INTERKULTUR and Westminster Choir College to step into a cooperation and organize together a choral festival in Princeton.
Bearing the slogan “Singing and Joy”, the Sing’n’joy Princeton will be taking place from February 16 to 19, 2017. The Sing’n’Joy concept also includes concerts and manifold encounters between the participating choirs. The competitions will be taking place in the Princeton High School Center of Performing Arts and Westminster Choir College will open their Chapel for the “Musica Sacra” category and for concerts. One of the highlights of the event will be ensembles from Westminster Choir College who will present their world class quality in the Grand Opening and maybe also on other occasions during the festival.
Conductors and Singers will be given the chance to attend master classes held by Morten Lauridsen and other choral experts and why not enjoy the beauty of New Jersey, the so called “Garden State”, with its 127 miles of coastline on the Atlantic Ocean, more than 800 lakes and ponds, 36 state parks, 24 historic sites and much more.
On Monday, February 20, which will mark the President´s Day in 2017, an official holiday, the choirs will have the opportunity to visit New York and even to sing there … but that shall remain a secret at the present time … stay tuned to learn more about it soon.
