The University of Akron Department of Civil Engineering is proud to host the 2014 National Student Steel Bridge Competition (NSSBC)! The competition will be held on May 23-24 and is jointly organized by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the University of Akron Civil Engineering Department.
Teams of college students throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico will spend countless hours in preparation for the SSBC competition. The top universities will qualify for the national competition by placing at the top of their regional competition.
The mission of the Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC) is to grant civil engineering students a comprehensive, student-driven project experience from conception and design through fabrication, erection and testing; culminating in a steel structure that meets client specifications and optimizes both performance and economy. Categories of the competition are display, construction speed, lightness, stiffness, construction economy, and structural efficiency.
