For the second year in a row Mitre 10 has launched it’s annual hunt for New Zealand’s biggest pumpkin grown by a kid.
The competition opened on the 1st of October with the weigh in occurring around the country on Saturday April 5, 2014.
The seeds are available now at 50cents per packet and all the proceeds are going toward the Mitre 10 Takahē rescue programme.
There will be a grand national winner as well as regional winners. There will be fun activities for family’s on the day and prizes also for the best dressed and ugliest pumpkins.
The heaviest from each store are in the battle for an iPad mini and a garden goodie pack plus getting the title of Grand National winner.
Last years winner was from Ashburton with a 124kg pumpkin grown by 12 year old Taylor Mackenzie.
To enter the competition you need to purchase your special big pumpkin competition seeds from in store at all Mitre 10 mega stores and selected Mitre 10 stores, then register online at www.mitre10.co.nz/kids. each pumpkin seeds packet contains growing instructions and a plant tag.
It is great that Mitre 10 is doing this again, it is for a great cause and the seeds are a great price at 50cents, it will be awesome to hear how everyone goes with this.
