Build Your Own Boat!
Become master and commander of your own homemade, human-powered ship during our 2nd annual Build Your Own Boat Competition on Sunday, September 1. Build your vessel at home before navigating it down our Class IV whitewater in a competition against other boat-builders. The race will take place during our Labor Day Festival that also features two trail races, live music and a fireworks display over our man-made whitewater river.

BYOB Competitor Details
Teams:
Teams may consist of 1-4 people.
All participants must be ages 16 and up.
A majority of points will be award based on style. Funky, creative costumes and teams of four are encouraged. Remember, you must be able to swim in your costume (no masks).
Scoring:
Up to 100 points will be awarded based on style, completion and bonus points.
Style:
Teams can earn up to 55 points for style.
Completion:
Teams can earn up to 40 points for completion. Teams will be award 20 points for navigating through Bridge Drop and 20 points for navigating through Big Drop. At least one team member must be “mostly on the boat” through the feature to earn the points.
Bonus points:
Teams can earn up to 5 bonus points if your entire team is “mostly on your boat” through Big Drop.
Rules of the Game:
All crafts must be human powered.
Everything must float.
Craft must not exceed 10′ wide x 10′ long x 8′ tall.
The following items cannot be used:
Metal objects
Sharp objects
Straps or devices that hold you to the craft (participants must be able to wet exit at any time)
Manufactured crafts designed for whitewater (rafts, kayaks, duckies, riverboards, SUP, etc.)
Pool toys, floats, etc. are okay.
Day-of-the-Event Checklist:
Deliver craft to USNWC by 12 p.m.
Check-in behind the Kayak Center
USNWC Event Staff will approve crafts and assign start times.
Race begins at 2 p.m.
Fine Print:
USNWC will provide paddles, PFDs and helmets to all participants.
Safety gear must be worn throughout the entire race.
All rafting rules and regulations apply.
USNWC reserves the right to deny entry to any team and/or participants if materials or craft is unsafe.
Participants must be able to swim in their costumes. No masks.
The event will occur rain or shine.
