Following the premier of the European Choir Games in Graz 2013, from July 5 – 12, 2015 INTERKULTUR is once again looking for the best choirs in Europe. This time the host city is located directly in the heart of Germany: Magdeburg – a city with a centuries-old history and the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt.
Magdeburg is one of Europe’s greenest cities. Numerous parks and green spaces shape the city, ideal for common singing in summer 2015. In the Elbauenpark, for example the spiral “Jahrtausendturm” (millenium tower) will be a venue for Friendship Concerts and many other activities. Being 60m high, it’s the third highest wooden structure in the world and an ideal event venue.
Among others, the Champions Competition and the German Open Competition, which is open for choirs from all over the world, will be held in the amazing concert halls of the Johanniskirche Magdeburg and the monastery “Unser lieben Frauen”. Furthermore the civic hall Magdeburg is available for major events such as the Opening, Closing and Awards Ceremony as well as common singing.
Magdeburg has a rich cultural life in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Located only 130 km west of Berlin it follows the impetus of the vibrant German capital adding its own history: The Baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann was born here and Richard Wagner worked in Magdeburg occasionally. Events to their honor and many others fill the city’s cultural calendar each year.
By the way: The 9th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition in Wernigerode, one of INTERKULTUR’s most beautiful and famous festivals, will be held following the European Choir Games in the colorful city at the Harz which is only 70 km away. A great opportunity to visit both events and to enjoy the numerous touristic attractions.
Come to Magdeburg, experience Germany’s cultural life and become European Choir Champion or Grand Prize Winner in Magdeburg 2015!
