2015 World Wrestling Championships

The world’s best wrestlers from more than 100 countries will vie for world titles as well as qualifying spots for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. This is the first time since 2003 the Wrestling World Championships are being held in the United States, after New York and Madison Garden played host. The Orleans Arena will be the venue for next year’s world championships.

“We very excited to play host to the wrestling world’s largest event outside the Olympics,” said USA Wrestling’s Executive Director Rich Bender. “It is an historic event not just for USA Wrestling but also for our 174-member nations. It also serves as an Olympic qualifier which makes it special. Las Vegas and the Orleans Arena present a tremendous opportunity to mix our sport into the world’s best entertainment city.”

“Las Vegas is known internationally as the home of championship events and experiences that can’t be found anywhere else in the world,” said Pat Christenson, president of Las Vegas Events. “The World Wrestling Championships are a perfect fit for our city, and we look forward to welcoming the athletes, delegations and fans from across the globe in September of 2015.”

Competition in all three Olympic styles of international wrestling will be held: men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-­‐Roman.

The event is hosted by United World Wrestling, the international governing body for the sport of wrestling, USA Wrestling, the national governing body for the sport of wrestling in America, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and Las Vegas Events.
