The Merrell Down & Dirty Obstacle Race presented by Subaru is an obstacle-climbing, trail-blasting race that will push you to your limits. Two courses, 20+ obstacles, one true challenge.
3 Mile Course Description
Mile 1 – Runners will start in beautiful Belmont Plateau in Fairmount park and begin running around the local softball and baseball fields. After trudging through the water crossing, runners will start through the trails on a wide gravel path.
Mile 2 – Here you will begin the true trails and run in a shady, secluded area. Occasional building and the sounds of the road is the only thing to remind you that you are still in the city. The 5k runners will make a left at the recycling center road and proceed toward the nursery.
Mile 3 – 5k runners will enjoy a couple of fast hills to stretch their legs before coming back through the mud and to the finish!
6 Mile Course Description
Mile 1 – Runners will start in beautiful Belmont Plateau in Fairmount park and begin running around the local softball and baseball fields. After trudging through the water crossing, runners will start through the trails on a wide gravel path.
Mile 2 – Here you will begin the true trails and run in a shady, secluded area. Occasional buildings and the sounds of the road are the only things to remind you that you are still in the city. The 5k runners will make a left at the recycling center road and proceed toward the nursery.
Mile 3 – Mile 3 for our 10kers begins a nice uphill to keep the legs warm before you appear behind home plate. Once around the baseball field you will head along Chamounix Dr toward the youth hostel. This section after the hostel is the best part about the Philadelphia course. You will proceed down single track through a secluded forest with strange steps, a creek crossing and a very unexpected bridge.
Mile 4 – Once appearing out of the forest, 10k runners will follow the paths along Chamounix, make a u-turn and head down Ford Rd toward the recycling center.
Mile 5 – 10k runners will rejoin with their 5k friends and proceed toward the local nursery and back into the trail system. There are a couple of great hills along gravel roads as you weave your way through some fast stretches.
Mile 6 – As both 10k and 5k racers finish up the trails, they will reappear in the main site, finish the remaining obstacles, head through the mud pit and ultimately the finish line.
